BELVEDERE TERRACE APARTMENTS

FOR NEWPORT PARTNERS

Belvedere Terrace is a three-story apartment building for seniors located on Tucson’s East side. The building is organized around fostering connection between residents. The project was funded through the 2023 Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program and gap funding from City of Tucson and Pima County.

The entry to the building sits within a large two-story communal space. The central stair connecting the levels is open and airy, linking the lobby space to the multi-purpose room, indoor sitting areas, and balconies on the second level, weaving together a single space where residents can meet casually, and participate in a variety of activities without having to go out of their way. The daylit corridors connecting apartments offer opportunities for connection, each with wide seating alcoves for impromptu conversation. The project consists of one- and two-bedroom apartments, each offering contemporary finishes and fixtures, ample natural light and enhanced accessibility to enable residents to age in place. Other amenities include a supportive services working office and a fitness room with a stunning view of the city and the Catalina mountains.

The project is located on a challenging infill site set far back from 22nd street behind a pair of automobile focused commercial buildings. The site is within walking distance of major bus transit lines as well as a grocery store and pharmacy. Solar parking covers provide an extensive solar photovoltaic generation system, sized to significantly reduce or eliminate resident power bills. Other exterior amenities include a citrus grove, separated runs for large and small dogs, a covered BBQ area, and a naturally paved walking path through the project’s landscaped back yard.
